Santorini: Friday already
Trish, Squizz & Annie headed out very early in the morning to capture some sunrise sights around the Akrotiri area.
We headed out mid morning on a winery tour........first stop Gavalas Winery at Megalochori.
This little village about 3kms south from the capital of Fira has Neoclassical mansions, narrow streets and the typical cave houses of Santorini.
After meandering down some VERY narrow alleys (where we needed to pull our mirrors on cars in) we parked and wandered the cobbled paths and browsed in the various shops and eventually found our way through the back entrance to Gavalas Wines.
The lovely hostess, took us on a tour of the winery and showed us the different methods used to produce the wines in the modern way and the traditional way.
We then walked back to the cars and made our way to our next destination - Santos Winery.
Thank goodness for Google Maps - Jenny & Tina were the navigators and helped Annie & Sandy find their way safely to the winery.
An interesting concept where you paid for a wine tasting and platter of food....soon divided us into pairs to partake.
Have to say the view was amazing!
We then headed back to the apartments for a short while and then arranged taxis to take us to Perissa for the afternoon evening.
Annie, Tina, Sarah and Sabdy all took the opportunity to swim in the Aegean while Squizz, Trish & Jenny wandered the various tourist shops and then settle in at a local establishment!
We then all re connected and after a beverage wandered the streets for a while and then settled at the Yas Bar which had been recommended by Nike - the hostess at our apartments. A very enjoyable evening sampling the local cuisines!
