Italy: Positano
The morning started with an over caste sky and a relatively higher humidity than previous days. Trish, Annie and Squizz braved the sore legs, the very sore legs in some cases, and walked into Positano to explore the meandering streets and the secrets they hid. On the way we stopped to check out the houses on the precipitous cliffs, the colourful bougainvilleas entwining their verandas and archways and the numerous paths leading to other hidden destinations. We even did some shopping, well window at least, in the many outlets for local designs- ceramics, clothes, accessories, gelato, art and of course shoes. A most interesting and enjoyable meander until we met up with Sandy for lunch.
Sandy took up the challenge of the local bus system as advised by Giovanni (our host at Villa La Roccia), while waiting got to really experience the local road system. Great opportunity to see further around the area on the road trip to the centre of Positano. A few hairy moments with busses trying to pass each other on the very narrow roads.
Check out some of the very tiny local cars.
We all met up in town and wandered the shops.. A few small purchases were made as we explored the very popular tourist area.
A relaxing lunch stop at La Zagara saw Sandy try a Rossini beverage and the other ladies have a Piccolo.
Time to head back to the villa for Sandy, Squizz & Trish. We planned to catch the local bus back to our villa BUT OMG road rage by pedestrians.......took us till the 3rd bus till we could get on as people queued and pushed on the narrow street. We tried to get a taxi as we thought this might be an easier solution BUT not achieved. Eventually we arrived safe and sound back at the villa and Squizz & Sandy headed up to the pool.
Annie stayed on in Positano to explore the beaches. The main beach was full of tourists taking selfies. The sea was pretty wild causing locals to dismantle the pontoons and relocate their boats further away from shore. A path around the headland lead to the second beach where tourists were determined to lay on deck chairs with the tide coming in washing around them. After a yummy pistachio gelato Annie walked home passed the bus queues and traffic jams.
After snacks and beverages on our top terrace we enjoyed a relaxing night at home at the villa.
